Recommended to Read: Don Miguel Ruiz - The Four Agreements

Updated: Mar 12

This book is quite short, but very onto the point. It may take a while to get into Don Miguel's style of writing, but if you get the jist of what this book is saying you are on to a winner.

The 4 agreements are very simple in theory but may get a bit of practice to implement. They are:

  1. Be impeccable with your word - what you say is magic. It is your choice if it becomes black magic or white magic. Never underestimate the power of words! As we have a child with a primary love language of words of affirmation, I learned this the hard way. This is the agreement that if you master it, your will notice immediate results! For example our daughter is working a ski season in France this year. At the current moment we do not have a trip booked to see her, due to financial reasons. When people asked me 'Are you going to visit her?' I kept saying, 'Unfortunately no, we can't afford it a the moment'. Now I changed my words, and my belief, around this and my response is 'Yes we will, just the plans are not finalised yet when'. I promise to post some pictures when we are whizzing down the slopes together, watch this space :).

  2. Don't take it personally. As much as we like to think the world revolves around us, sometimes it's really not us, but them. Someone may be having a rough day, or going through a difficult situation or just plain old busy. The less we take it personally, the freer we will be.

  3. Don't make assumptions. Most of us are not mind readers, yet. Do not assume that you know what the other person thinks, believes and will do. Communicate and find out the truth.

  4. Do your best. Be in the moment, and put the effort in at that precise moment. I always say, when you step on the mat, pratice with the body that you have brought on the mat today. Not the one you had yesterday, or want to have. Just the one you have at this precise moment. Only you know, if you are doing your best. It will differ from day to day.

Which agreement spoke to you the most? My biggest challenge is definitely agreement 1., be impeccable with your word, and I already noticed a big shift since I am consciously practicing this.

Let me know what you think

Love

Dora
